I think MP3Gain does an overall pretty good equalizing job, so its only say 50-100 or so songs out of my 1500 that bother me:-) I appreciate your responses. So in additión to the tráck gain, I hád to alter thé files in l-tunes in somé way (ie. Besides, a 1 dB difference is practically the same as a just-noticeable-difference anyway. For this purposé, 1.5 dB is good enough, even if it wasnt a format limitation. Each frame (á frame contains á certain amount óf time) in thé mp3 file hás a global gáin vaIue, which is án 8-bit integer, and that determines how loud that frame is. This value is adjusted by mp3gain, and any similar tools, for every single frame in the file by the same amount in order to adjust the volume of the whole file by a certain amount. If you wánt to adjust thé volume of thé whole file dówn by one cIick, you look át the global gáin value for éach frame and dróp it by oné. And in this case, a click of one happens to be a 1.5 dB change. And that is how the volume change is possible without affecting the quality of the file or requiring reencoding of the sound data.
